    Dosage

    Two tablets (500 mg) daily for 3 days. The same total dose may be given over
    5 days, with two tablets (500 mg) on the first day and one tablet (250 mg) daily on days 2-5.
    This medicine should to be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after food.

    Indications

    Infections caused by susceptible organisms in lower respiratory tract, otitis media, upper respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, uncomplicated genital infections due to chlamydia trachomatis or due to non-multiresistant neisseria gonorrhea. Concurrent infection with triponema palidum should be excluded.


    Contra-Indications

    Allergic reactions to components or macrolide antibiotics. Hepatic disease.


    Special Precautions

    Renal or hepatic impairment, pregnancy and lactation.


    Side Effects

    GI upset, anorexia, allergy, rash, photosensitivity, arthralgia, edema, angioneurotic edema, anaphylaxis, abnormal liver function, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, dizziness, vertigo, convulsions. Headache, somnolence, interstitial nephritis, acute renal failure, palpitations, arrhythmias, asthenia, paresthesia. Rarely: hearing impairment, erythema multiforme, Stevens Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, hepatic necrosis, hepatic failure, neutropenia, taste disturbances.


    Drug interactions

    Ergot alkaloids, cyclosporin, antacids.
