Indications
Second line treatment of hyperprolactinemia (idiopathic or due to prolactin-secreting micro- or adenoma or macroadenoma) and its clinical manifestation (galactorrhea, oligomenorrhea, infertility, reduced libido).
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity to the drug. Impaired hepatic or renal function.
Special Precautions
Women of child-bearing age who do not wish to conceive should be advised to practice a reliable method of contraception. Patients should be cautious when driving a vehicle or operating machinery. It is recommended to check blood pressure both lying and standing during the first days of therapy and following dosage increases. Particular caution is required in patients who have had psychotic episodes in their previous history.
Pregnancy and lactation: Discontinue when pregnancy is confirmed. Breast-feeding cannot be recommended.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness and fatigue. Less frequent effects: anorexia, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea, insomnia, edema, flushing, nasal congestion and hypotension.
Drug interactions
No interactions have so far been reported. The tolerability may be reduced by alcohol.
