    Dosage

    The recommended dosage is usually 10 mg per day, in the morning at least 15 minutes before breakfest. Depending on the patient response, the dosage may increase to 20 mg per day.
    This medicine is usually not intended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.


    Indications

    Mild to moderate essential hypertension.


    Contra-Indications

    Hypersensitivity to lercanidipine, dihydropyridines or to any of the excipients of the product. Should not be administered during pregnancy or to women of child-bearing potential unless effective contraception is used. Should not be administered to nursing mothers. Left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, untreated congestive cardiac failure, unstable angina pectoris, severe renal or hepatic impairment, within 1 month of a myocardial infarction. Co-administration with strong inhibitors of CYP3A4, cyclosporin, grapefruit juice.


    Special Precautions

    Patients with sick sinus syndrome (if a pacemaker is not in situ). Patients with LV dysfunction. Patients with ischemic heart disease. May rarely lead to precordial pain or angina pectoris. Patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction. Alcohol should be avoided. Inducers of CYP3A4 like anticonvulsants (e.g. phenytoin, carbamazepine) and rifampicin should be approached with caution.  Vasodip 20 should not be administered to patients with Lapp lactase insufficiency, galactosemia or glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome.

    Drug interactions

    Inhibitors and inducers of CYP3A4 (ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, erythromycin, troleandomycin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin). Cyclosporin, grapefruit juice, midazolam, terfenadine, astemizole, class III antiarrhythmic (amiodarone and quinidine), metrorolol, fluoxetine, high doses of cimetidine.

    Pregnancy and Lactation

    This medicine is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
