Indications
Treatment of duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, reflux esophagitis and acid related disorders of the upper GI tract. Healing, long-term treatment and maintenance therapy for patients with GI reflux disease (GERD) or duodenal ulcer. Prevention of relapse in patients with GERD or duodenal ulcer. Eradication of H. Pylori from the upper GI tract in patients with duodenal ulcer, gastritis or benign ulcer (in combination with appropriate antibiotics). Short-term treatment (up to four weeks) of heartburn and/or upper epigastric pain associated with acid-related dyspepsia. Long-term management of pathological hypersecretory conditions including Zollinger Ellison Syndrome. Treatment and prophylaxis of NSAID-associated benign gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers and relief of symptoms in patients requiring continued NSAID treatment.
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Special Precautions
Before initiating treatment for gastric ulcer, the possibility of malignancy should be ruled out. For use in H. Pylori, the prescribing information for the relevant antibiotics to be used in conjunction with Lanton should be consulted.
Severe hepatic dysfunction: Daily dose of 30 mg should not be exceeded and patients should be monitored.
Pregnancy and lactation: Use should be avoided unless considered essential.
Side Effects
Diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence and dry or sore mouth or throat. Skin rashes, urticaria and pruritus. Headache, dizziness, fatigue and malaise. Angioedema, wheezing. Hematological effects. Arthralgia, myalgia, depression, peripheral edema.

Ketaconazole, drugs metabolized by the liver, phenytoin, theophylline, warfarin, sucralfate.
