Dosage
Initial: 5 mg per day. May increase to maximum dosage of 10 mg per day, depending on the patient response.
Elderly and young patients: As adults.
Indications
Mild to moderate hypertension. Vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal’s or variant angina). Chronic stable angina.
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Occasional patients have had excessive and poorly tolerated hypotension during initial titration or at a time of subsequent upward dosage adjustment, mostly in patients on concomitant β-blockers. Rarely increased angina and/or myocardial infarction, patients recently withdrawn from β-blockers, liver insufficiency. The tablets must only be removed from the foil immediately before use.
Side Effects
Peripheral edema, hypotension, palpitations, nasal and chest congestion, shortness of breath, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, cramps, flatulence, allergic hepatitis, dizziness, light headedness, nervousness, sleep disturbances, blurred vision, headache, flushing, weakness, equilibrium disturbances, dermatitis, rash, pruritus, urticaria, thrombocytopenia, gingival hyperplasia, muscle cramps, joint stiffness, arthralgia, impotence, fever, chills, sweating, sexual difficulties.
