25 mg/kg BW, orally, X3/d (total daily dose of 75 mg/kg BW). Dose per kg BW should be calc. to the nearest 1/2 tab.
Tmt of iron overload in pts over 6 years old who suffer from thalassemia major when deferoxamine ther. is contraindic. or inadequate.
C/I: - Hypersens. – Hist. of recurrent episodes of neutropenia. – Hist. of agranulocytosis. - Pregn- Breast-feeding - Due to the unknown mechan. of deferiprone-induced neutropenia, pts. must not take medic. prod. known to be associated with neutropenia or that can cause agranulocytosis
