Indications
Depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), treatment binge-eating and vomiting behaviors in bulimia nervosa.
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Anxiety, insomnia, altered appetite and weight, activation of mania/hypomania, seizures, suicide, the long elimination half-life of fluoxetine and its metabolites, use in patients with concomitant illness, interference with cognitive and motor performance. 14 days to be allowed between discontinuation of MAO inhibitors and treatment with fluoxetine. At least 5 weeks between discontinuation of fluoxetine and initiation of MAOI. Hepatic and renal patients to be monitored. See prescribing information for full details.
Side Effects
Headache, nervousness, insomnia, drowsiness, anxiety, tremor, dizziness, fatigue, sedated, nausea, diarrhea, dryness of mouth, anorexia, dyspepsia, constipation, abdominal pain, vomiting, excessive sweating, rash, pruritus.
