Dosage
Adults: 1 puff in each nostril up to 3 times daily. At least 6 hours should elapse between two doses.
Before the first application, prime the pump by actuating 4 times. Once primed the pump will normally remain charged throughout regular daily treatment periods. Should the spray not be ejected during the full actuation stroke, or if the product has not been used for longer than 6 days the pump will need to be reprimed with the same number of actuations as initially performed.
The treatment duration should not exceed 7 days, as chronic treatment with
xylometazoline hydrochloride may cause swelling of the nasal mucosa and
hypersecretion because of increased sensibility in the cells, ”rebound effect” (rhinitis medicamentosa).
It is recommended to stop treatment, when the symptoms have diminished, even before the maximum duration of treatment of 7 days, in order to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.
Children and adolescents below 18 years of age: Otrivin Complete is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age due to lack of sufficient documentation.
Geriatrics: There is only limited experience of use in patients above 70 years of age.
Indications
Rapid relief nasal congestion after 5-10 minutes. Reduction of runny nose secretion (rhinorrhea) associated with common colds, within 15 minutes.
Contra-Indications
Children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, atropine or similar substances, e.g. scopolamine. After surgery in which pituitary gland (hypophysis) has been removed through the nose or after nose and pharynx surgeries in which meninges were damaged. If suffering from glaucoma. If suffering from rhinitis sicca (nasal congestion characterized by dryness).
Special Precautions
For external use only. Should not be swallowed. Avoid spraying in or around the eye, as such contact may cause temporary blurred vision, pain, redness or irritation of the eye. Worsening of narrow angle glaucoma may also occur. In case of contact with the eye, rinse the eye with water and contact the physician in case the eyes are sore or vision is blurred.
