Dosage
Adults: One tablet, three times a day (600 mg).
Elderly: May reduce the dosage in accordance with kidney function.
Children: This medicine is not intended for use in children.
Indications
Reduction of high blood level of cholesterol and triglycerides where diet regimen is insufficient.
Contra-Indications
Known hypersensitivity, patients with severe liver dysfunction or primary biliary cirrhosis, and in those patients with severe renal disorders (serum creatinine values above 530 uMol/liter). Patients with the nephrotic syndrome, pregnant women or nursing mothers.
Special Precautions
LDL and HDL levels should be monitored during treatment. Periodic blood counts and liver function tests are recommended.
Side Effects
Feeling of fullness of the stomach, myositis-like syndrome. Rarely, disorders of sexual potency and general hypersensitivity.
Drug interactions
Coumarin anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemics, insulin.
