    Dosage

    Adults: 2-10 mg twice to four times a day.
    Children: 1-2.5 mg three to four times a day. Can gradually increas as tolerated.


    Indications

    Anxiety, acute alcohol withdrawal, muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant.


    Contra-Indications

    Hypersensitivity, acute pulmonary insufficiency, psychoses, first trimester of pregnancy and in breastfeeding, acute narrow-angle glaucoma.

    Special Precautions

    Prolonged use may cause dependence. When discontinuing therapy in patients who have used these agents for prolonged periods, the dosage should be decreased gradually. Paradoxical reactions have been reported. Should these occur, use of the drug should be discontinued. Impaired renal or heptic function and pulmonary insufficiency. Myasthenia gravis.

    Side Effects

    Drowsiness, fatigue and ataxia, especially in elderly or debilitated patients, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, incontinence, dysuria, enuresis, changes in libido, urinary retention, menstrual irregularities, bradycardia, tachycardia, hypertension, hypotension, palpitations, visual disturbances, diplopia, urticaria, pruritus, skin rash, dermatitis, hepatic dysfunction.
