All the Active Ingredient Drugs
Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor. Aciclovir 200 mg, 400 mg. TABS: 2, 10, 20, 25, 30, 60, 70, 100.
Herpes simplex: 200 mg (1 tab) every 4
hrs (5 x dly). Herpes zoster (shingles):
Single dose of 800 mg (2 x 400 mg
tabs) every 4 hrs (5 x dly). Start tmt. as
soon as possible aft. onset of rash
(within 72 hrs. from onset of itch.;
chickenpox: within 24 hrs.) Child:
Herpes simplex: 2 yrs and over: Adult
dose. Under 2 yrs: 1/2 adult dose. See
lit.
Tmt. and proph. of infects. caused by
herpes simplex and varicella zoster virus.
To be considered for tmt. of chicken pox
in certain groups at increased risk of
severe varicella or its complicat. See lit.

Tmt. herpes simplex infects., severe initial
genital herpes in non-immune comp.
pts., prophylax. herpes simplex infects. in
immune-comp. pts. Tmt. varicella zoster
infects., herpes simplex encephalit.,
herpes simplex infects. in neonate/infant
up to 3 mths old.
Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor. Aciclovir 250 mg/vial. VIALS: 5 x 250 mg. 5 mg/kg bdy. wt. by
slow I.V. infus. every 8 hrs.
Severe infects., eg. initial genital herpes
and herpes encephalit.
DNA Polymerase Inhibitor. Aciclovir 3% w/w. EYE OINT: 4.5 g x 3%. Apply 1 cm ribbon
of oint. inside lower conjunct. sac 5 x
dly. at approx. 4 hrly. intervals. Cont.
tmt. for at least 3 days aft. healed.
Herpes simplex, keratit.
Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor. Aciclovir 200 mg / 5 ml. SUSP: 125 ml x 200 mg/5 ml. 5 ml 5 x
dly. at approx. every 4 hrs. Cont. for 5
days. Proph: 5 ml 4 x dly. every 6 hrs.
Child. (under 2 yrs.): 1/2 adult dose.
Tmt. and proph. of infects. caused by
herpes simplex and varicella zoster virus.
