Dosage
Adults including the elderly, and children over the age of 12: Dosage is based upon an initial daily dosage of 2250 mg Carbocisteine in divided doses (15 ml
Mucolit Oral Solution 250mg/5ml, three times a day), reducing to 1500 mg daily in divided doses (10 ml, three times a day) when a satisfactory response is obtained.
Children 2 – 5 years: The usual dose is 1.25 – 2.5 ml four times daily
Children 6 – 12 years: The usual dose is 2.5- 5 ml three times daily
Indications
Abnormal, viscid or inspissated mucous secretions in acute or chronic respiratory disease.
Contra-Indications
Known hypersensitivity, active peptic ulcer, first trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Discontinuing breastfeeding temporarily or withholding the drug while breastfeeding.

Pregnancy and Lactation
Pregnancy

or not Carbocysteine is safe for use during pregnancy. The use of Carbocysteine in pregnant women is not recommended, especially during the first trimester.
Breast-feeding
There are no available data on the presence of Carbocysteine in human milk, milk production, or the effects on the breastfed infant. No conclusions can be drawn regarding whether or not Carbocysteine is safe for use during breastfeeding. The use of Carbocysteine in breastfeeding women is not recommended.
