Thyroid Hormones. Levothyroxine Sodium 50 mcg, 100 mcg.
TABS: 100. Initial: 50-100 μg dly, adjust
by 50 μg at 4-6 wk intervals until
normal metab. maintain. Pts > 50 yrs:
Initial: Max 50 μg dly. Cardiac dis: 25 μg
dly (as 50 μg on alternate days). See lit.
Hypothyroidism, cretinism, juvenile
myxoedema.
C/I: Hypersens., thyrotoxicos.

SCORED TABS: 100 x 25 μg, 100 x 50 μg, 100 x 100 μg.
Start with low dose, increase grad.
every 2-4 wks until full replace. dose
reached, see lit.
Benign euthyroid goitre, prophylax.
relapse aft. surgery for euthyroid goitre,
hypothyroidism., supp. ther. thyroid
cancer, during anti-thyroid drug tmt.,
diagnost. use, See lit.
C/I: Hypersens., untreated adrenal and/
or pituitary insuffic., untreat.
thyrotoxicos., acute MI, acute
myocarditis, acute pancarditis.
Combination therapy of levothyroxine and an antithyroid agent for hyperthyroidism is not indicated during pregnancy. See lit.

Child: 0-3mths. 10-15 mcg/kg/d; 3-6 mths. 8-10 mcg/kg/d; 6-12 mths. 6-8 mcg/kg/d; 1-5 yrs. 5-6 mcg/kg/d; 6-12 yrs. 4-5 mcg/kg/d; over 12 yrs. but growth & puberty incomp. 1.7 mcg/kg/day based on clinic.response & lab.paramet.
Growth & puberty complete 1.7 mcg/
kg/d; Adult: 1.7 mcg/kg/d (100-125 mcg/d for a 70 kg adult).
Hypothyroidism. Pituitary TSH Suppres.
C/I: Hypersens., pts. with untreated
subclin. or overt thyrotoxicosis of any
etiology & pts. with acute MI., pts. with
uncorrect. adren. insuf.
