acquired respir. infect. and has been shown to be active in vitro against
common and atypical respir. pathogens
as listed in the microbiology section.
Skin & soft tissue infec. of mild to moder.
severity.
In combin. with PPI’s for the eradication
of H. Pylori in pts. with proven duoden.
ulc. Tmt. of Mycobacterium Avium
Complex infec. in AIDS pts.
C/I: Hypersens. or hypersens. to
macrolide group e.g.: erythromycin,
azithromycin.
Pts. who suffered from Jaundice, another
hep. disorder follow. the use of
clarithromycin in the past.
Concom. use with : Astemizole,
terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide (due to
possible card. disorder follow this
comb.). Eletriptan, ergotamine or
dihydroergtamine or ergotamine
inhalers. Eplerenone (for the tmt. of card.
fail.), ivabradine, ranolazine or ticagrlor.
Concom. use with Statins (e.g.:
lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin,
atorvastatin, rosuvastatin).
Concom. use with Colchicine.
Pts. with hypokalaemia.
Pts. with hep./renal. disorder.
Clarithromycin should not be given to
pts. or any member of the family with
history of arrhythmia (ventr. arrhythmias
includ. “Torsades de pointes”) or an ECG
abnorm. (QT prolong. synd. See lit.).
