Retinoids for Treatment of Psoriasis. Acitretin 10 mg, 25 mg. CAPS: 30, 100 x 10 mg, 25 mg. Initial: 25-30 mg dly. for 2-4 wks. Maint: 25-50 mg dly. for 6-8 wks. Incr. if necess. to 75 mg dly. To be taken 1 x dly with meals/milk. Not longer than 6 mths. See lit.
Severe disord. of keratinization such as erythrodermic psorias. local/ general. pustular psoriasis congenit. ichthyosis pityriasis rubra pilaris darier's dis.
C/I: Due to teratogenicity contraind. in preg. Women of childb. potent. unless strict contracept. is pract. 4 wks. before, during and for 2 yrs. after tmt. Lactation.
Pts. with sev. hep./ renal impair. and in pts. with chron. abnormal. elevat. blood lipid values. Hypersens. to the preparation acitretin/other retinoid.
Concom. use with tetracyclines. Concom. use with methotrexate and etretinate. Concom. use with other retinoids/Vitamin A.
Pts. with rare glucose-galactose malabsorp.
