Dosage
Adults: Dosage is according to doctor’s instructions only. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. It is very important to start treatment as soon as possible. Unless otherwise instructed by physician, the dosage is in accordance with its intended use as follows:
Herpes zoster: 2 tablets, 3 times a day for 7 days.
Herpes simplex: 1 tablet, twice a day for 5 days. In cases of severe infection, treatment can be extended for up to 10 days.
For the prevention of recurrent genital herpes in immune-competent patients: 1 tablet once a day.
For the prevention of CMV infection – adults and children from 12 years of age: 4 tablets, 4 times a day. Begin treatment immediately after organ transplantation.
For the treatment of herpes labialis (cold sore): 4 tablets, twice a day, 12 hours apart, for one day. This medicine is not usually intended for administration to children under 12 years of age. This medicine is to be taken at specific time intervals as determined by the attending physician. This medicine should be taken at the same time every day. Missed dose should be taken as soon as the patient remembers: the next dose should be taken at its regular time. It’s advisable to drink a lot of fluids while under treatment.
Indications
Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) in immune-competent adults, accelerates the resolution of pain; it reduces the duration, and the proportion of patients with zoster-associated pain, which includes acute and post-herpetic neuralgia. Treatment of the initial and recurrent genital herpes due to herpes simplex infection. Prevention (suppression) of recurrent herpes simplex infections (herpes genitalis). Prophylaxis of CMV infection and disease, following organ transplantation. Treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis).
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity to active substance or acyclovir.
Special Precautions
Impaired function of: the liver (at high dosages of 4 grams per day), the kidney, the nervous system, dehydration. Patients over the age of 65. Immune-compromised patients or patients that underwent organ transplantation.

Drug interactions
For drug interactions with :cyclosporine, tacrolimus, cimetidine, probenecid, aminoglycosides, organoplatinum compounds, iodinated contrast media, methotrexate, pentamidine, foscarnet ,mycophenolate mofetil.

Pregnancy and Lactation
