    Carbapenem. Meropenem (as Trihydrate) 500 mg, 1 g.
    VIAL: 10 X 500 mg, 1 g. Adult.: The dosage and durat. of ther. shall be establish. depend. on type and sever. of infec. and the condit. of the pt.
    The recomm. dly. dosage is as follow.:
    500 mg IV every 8 hrs. in the tmt. of pneumon., UTI, gynaecolog. infect. such as endometritis, pelvic inflamm. dis., skin and skin structure infect.
    1 g IV every 8 hrs. in the tmt. of nosocom. pneumonias, peritonitis, presumed infect. in neutropenic pts., septicaemia.
    In CF, doses up to 2 g every 8 hrs. have been used; most pts. have been treated with 2 g every 8 hrs.
    In meningitis the recomm. dosage is 2 g every 8 hrs.
    When treat. infect. known or suspect. to be caused by Pseudomonas a., a dose of at least 1g every 8 hrs. in adults (max. approved dose is 6g dly. given in 3 divided doses) and a dose of at least 20 mg/kg every 8 hrs. in child. (max. approved dose is 120 mg/kg/dly. given in 3 divided doses) are recomm.
    Regular sensitive. testing is recomm. when treat. Pseudomonas a. infec.
    There are limited safety data available to support the admin. of a 2g bolus dose in adult. as an IV bolus inject.
    Tmt., in adults and child., of the follow. infec. caused by single or multiple bacteria sensit. to meropenem.: Pneumon., Nosocomial Pneumon.; Pulmon. infec. in pts. with CF; UTI; Intra abdom. Infec.; Gynaecolog. Infect., such as endometritis and pelvic inflamm. dis.; Skin & Skin Structure Infect.; Meningit.; Septicaem.
    Meronem has proved efficac. alone or in comb. with other antimicrob. agents in the tmt. of polymicrob. infect. There is no experience in paediatr. pts. with neutropen. or primary or second. immunodeficiency.
    C/I: Hypersens. Hypersens. to any other carbapenem antibact. agent. Severe hypersens. (e.g. anaphylactic. reaction, severe skin react.) to any other type of beta-lactam antibact. agent (e.g. penicillins /cephalosporins).
