Dosage
Osteoarthritis: 200 mg, once daily, or 100 mg twice daily in divided doses.
Rheumatoid arthritis: 100-200 mg twice daily, and in any case no more than 400 mg per day.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of inflammation and pain in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity to components, syndrome of nasal polyps, angiodema, bronchospastic reactivity to aspirin or other NSAID agents, active peptic ulcer. Supps: for inflammatory lesions rectum of anus, or in patients with recent history rectal or anal bleed.
Special Precautions
Risk of GI ulceration, bleeding and perforation. Patients on prolonged corticosteroid therapy should have their therapy tapered slowly if a decision is made to discontinue corticosteroids. Should not be administered to patients with aspirin sensitivity, use with caution in patients with pre-existing asthma. Pregnancy and lactation: NSAID’s are not recommended. Amounts excreted in breast milk with usual doses are considered too small to be harmful to the nursing infant.
Side Effects
Dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence.
Drug interactions
Flluconazole, antacids (aluminum magnesium). Lithium, coumarin anticoagulants, heparin, other NSAIDs, ketorolac. ACE inhibitors, thiazide diuretics, antihypertensives. Oral hypoglycemics, methotrexate, cardiac glycosides, spironolactone, corticosteroids, cimetidine, cyclosporin. Phenobarbitone, mifepristone, quinolones, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, phenylpropanolamine, sulphonamides, phenytoin, β-blockers.
